Dear friend, have you heard this message of the Gospel? It's good news for each and every one of us. Perhaps today is the first time you've heard it, or maybe you've heard whispers of it through radio, books, or from others long ago. But within you, there may be layers of fog, preventing understanding and acceptance. Today, let's peer through the mist of myth and see the truth behind the Gospel.
Myth 1 : Is Christianity anti-science?
This is a common misconception about the Christian faith. In fact, science and faith are two distinct rivers, flowing in different directions—one towards the valley of materialism, the other towards the sea of life. There is no direct intersection or conflict between them. Instead, they are harmonious because they both flow from the same source—God's wisdom.
Albert Einstein said, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” Throughout the history of science, the rise of modern science owes much not only to ancient Greek thought but also to Christian faith. Many great scientists were Christians, such as Newton, Volt, Ampere, Ohm, Coulomb, Roentgen, Faraday, Edison, Marconi, Morse, Marie Curie, Gauss, Pasteur, Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Mendel, and many more.
Myth 2: Is Christian faith myth or superstition?
The Christian faith is neither a mythical fantasy nor superstition but rather historical truth, both in the past and in the present.
Because God is real. Though invisible to the eyes and ears, through human hearts, the nature, historical testimonies, and the words of the Bible, His existence can be clearly seen.
Because Jesus is real. His birth, life, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection are extensively recorded in the Bible, fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament prophets. Moreover, there are corroborating evidence from Jewish and Roman history, and the countless testimonies of Christians over two millennia further prove the reality of Jesus.
Because the Bible is real. Despite being written over sixteen centuries by more than forty authors with differing backgrounds, guided and inspired by the same Holy Spirit, it contains no conflicts or contradictions and forms a harmonious whole. Over two millennia, despite numerous attacks and criticisms, it still stands. Conversely, archaeological discoveries consistently verify the reliability of the Bible.
God, Jesus, and the Bible form the foundation of the Gospel, and their truthfulness demonstrates the truth of the Gospel.
Myth 3: Is the Gospel irrelevant to me?
Regardless of who you are, there's always a shadowy sky in everyone's heart, where the eagle of sin hovers, waiting to strike. Its poisonous talons grip our hearts, rendering us unable to do good, leading us into death. Perhaps you have wealth, knowledge, or social status, but as Jesus said, "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" Are you willing to forfeit your life? Or do you desire eternal hope? This is deeply relevant to you. Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." In the eyes of Jesus, every one of us, whether rich or poor, young or old, healthy or weak, educated or illiterate, president or beggar, are equal. He loves each one of us, willing that all should repent and none should perish. He died for our sins on the cross and rose again on the third day, offering us the hope of salvation and a more abundant life. Such is the Gospel, a free gift of grace given by God to each one of us, including you.
Myth 4: Will I lose my freedom if I become a Christian?
What is freedom? Imagine driving a car, recklessly swerving on the road, even driving off-road without rules, risking accidents and harm. That's not freedom but recklessness, possibly leading to destruction. True freedom is driving on your own road, staying on course, skillfully navigating, that's true freedom. Some say, within every heart, there's a wild horse, difficult to tame, always leading towards evil. Do you have such a horse in your heart? The Bible says, "The truth will set you free." Trusting in Jesus brings the freedom to break free from the bondage and control of sin, to live out one's true self.
Myth 5: Is it not the right time to trust in Jesus?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ offers not only eternal hope but also peace and joy in this life. Do you desire to rest in green pastures and enjoy peace and joy from today onwards, or do you wish to continue wandering in a foreign land until the grass withers and the flowers fade, returning with weariness to the homeland of your soul? Do you want to live a prepared, hopeful, and confident life from now on, or leave with the sorrows, confusion, and pain you came with? Do you want to live a victorious life or merely a saved one? The choice is yours. Moreover, life is fragile, and we do not know about tomorrow, nor when that day will come. Perhaps, if you miss the opportunity today, you might lose the chance forever. Dear friend, now is the best time.
Friend, Jesus is calling you with tender love: "Come back, O prodigal son!" If you are willing to accept the call now, return to the embrace of Jesus, and enjoy the peace of the Lord. All you need to do is open your heart before the Lord, confess your sins, ask the Lord to cleanse you with His precious blood shed on the cross, and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Then, you will receive a new life. Congratulations!
